It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Election Season...

SGI announced today that it would be issuing rebate cheques to most SGI customers mid-April and will be adjusting its rates effective July 1st. The conspicuous timing of this announcement raises obvious questions about the imminence of a provincial election.

Isn’t it convenient that the government-controlled crown corporation will be issuing cheques to the Saskatchewan public (who have no other choice but to insure their vehicles with the socialist arm of the provincial government) just in time for what seems likely to be election season? It seems the spending spree that the government has been on is set to continue until the NDP’s plight dissipates and its polling numbers precipitate favourably. I do hope that the people of Saskatchewan are smarter than that and see that the NDP is conveniently using the crown at its disposal for political benefit.

  • So where has the Sask Party been on saying it wants to get rid of SGI if it is so horrible?

  • So you are accusing Jon Schubert of issuing rebates to help the NDP? Wow.

  • It is patently obvious that the Crowns and the government paid advertising Are solely designed to enhance the re-election chances of the Saskatchewan NDP government. The ! ad campaign to "sell" Saskatchewan is a NDP re-election campaign under a gossamer thin veil. This is absolutely nothing new for the Saskatchewan NDP. Think back 4 years to the ad campaign that was run then.

  • Wow? Anonymous #2 - are you actually suggesting that the rebate cheques have nothing to do with the fact that an election is coming? Are you seriously that naive? No, I'm not accusing Jon Schubert of issuing the cheques to help the NDP. Rather, I'm accusing the NDP of directing Jon Schubert to issue the rebates as a means of helping themselves, of which they often do a good job. Too bad the same cannot be said of them helping the people of Saskatchewan.

  • Ok then, tell me why it is wrong for crowns to advertise? As a non-partisan, I don't see why a crown cant advertise. It seems like you would want to put a moratorium on Crown advertising before an election.

BTW, the province should always be selling itself, and it is so that's good. Moose Jaw made a decision to sell itself on their public funds and now look at it.

Sasktory, I am curious as to who needs what kind of help in Saskatchewan? Business, labour, mining, oil, CBO's, nurses, pork producers, low income, etc., etc., have all had help. So, who else?

  • Anonymous #3.

1st its an NDP government ad campaign not a Crown ad campaing.

2nd I agree that the province should promote itself. We should encourage business investment, tourism and immigration however, isn't it convenient that the NDP government starts an advertising campaign right before an election?
