Spring Election?

With all that is going on with scandals in the NDP and the low polling numbers they are posting, it seems unlikely that Calvert would want an election anytime soon. However, with the prospect of a likely fall federal election and the risk of total devastation if he waits too long, going this spring might be the best option available to him. After all, with NDP arrogance as prevalent as it is, not to mention potentially precipitous, Lorne may think himself invincible. After all, he does like to cite that the NDP came from behind to win in 2003.

Calvert has given all MLAs a May 17th deadline to let him know if they plan to run in the next election. If they don't, will that be enough time to put a candidate in place for a Spring election in June? I've heard word that May 24th might be the magic date that Lorne finally calls an election. Could this be true?

  • well I am one who thinks that Calvert is going to be a moron and call an election next spring. Calvert won't what one now and might not be able to have one in the fall because of a federal election. It does not matter when he calls one anyway because he is going down in defeat anyway.

  • Calvert & Co. will hang on as long as possible. I don't think they will leave their posts honourably. They have no scruples. They will ride their term in office out as long as possible, or as long as their caucus remains intact (at least one member is seriously ill).

At least Grant Hodgins had the integrity to resign from the Devine government when things started to go seriously astray.

  • So now your beloved SP is resorting to illegal activity and/or police involvement in the political process, this should not bode well for democracy in Saskatchewan under the SP. Sounds more like a police state.

  • Quimby,

What do you consider the NDP's involvement in ensuring that the MLAs from the Devine Government were prosecuted to the full extent of the law? That was definitely for political gain as much as anything else? You're a hypocrite, just like the rest of the sanctimonious lot of Calvert's administration.

  • Is this the type of government, or society, you condone. Where then ends justify the means and the police are involved in politics.

That seems to be the SP's outlook.

  • Let's all be sorry for mayor quimby. It can't be easy for him, seeing his beloved NDP doing so poorly in the polls.

Oh, and in case he wants to know what some red-necked Albertan is doing posting a comment about Saskatcehwan, I was born and raised in Saskatoon. Plus, with the exception of 13 months in Flin Flon, I lived in Saskatchewan all my life until I was 42 (11 years ago). In addition, I still have family in Saskatchewan (including a brother, sister-in-law & nephew in Saskatoon). So, I am still passionately interested in what goes on in the province I'll always consider home.

  • Another one forced out by the NDP's policies...

    Quimby,

You say: "Is this the type of government, or society, you condone. Where then ends justify the means and the police are involved in politics."

I turn to you - how is this NOT what the NDP did in the early 1990's? As a supporter of them, is this the type of government YOU condone?

  • Dean,
Facts are facts, the current government should have ensured that their response was completely factual, Hagel should resign and Calvert should apologize on behalf of the previous administration and call an enquiry, from 1992-present, on all questionable acts of all parties to the legislature. This would ensure that the Calvert government, opposition and previous Liberal members have been clean since this incident.

However, the SP methods of digging up dirt that is 15 years old, should also fall under the scope of an enquiry. The level of involvement of the RPS in leaking/ supporting the SP expose.

This whole thing stinks and everyone needs to have the air freshened and throw out the rot, on both sides.

  • So what is to be done since Calvert refuses to do the right thing?

From what I've read in today's news there will be an internal investigation into how the leak to the Sask Party came to be.

However, because someone from the Regina Police leaked something to the Sask Party caucus, does that necessarily implicate the Sask Party in wrong doing? What do you think the NDP would do if some dirt on the Sask Party was leaked to them? I doubt it would be any different. Perhaps it's dirty politics, but it is not beahviour peculiar to the Sask Party but perhaps, in this day, any political party.

  • If the Sask Liberals had any organization, they would be able to make the most. Right now, I am sick of both parties.

  • Well the spring election is out the window. Leisure Suit Lorne just got a royal reprieve, in the form of a visit by Princess Anne in June. As we all know, an election campaign is never held during a royal visit. We are stuck with these goofs till spring '08....God Help us all!!!
