Election Fever
It seems the record-setting weather isn't the only thing heating up in Saskatchewan as election fever sets in around the province.
The signs abound that we are approaching the day that Calvert will actually buck up and call an election. Indeed, he has even purchased a new set of teeth for the event. It is a good thing for him too because the way things are going, every little thing he can do to project a more positive image of himself and his government will be needed if he wishes to retain power.
If the spending spree that Calvert has been on is any indication, an election shouldn't be too far away, which is a relief for those of us whose worst fear is that he will try to hold on to power for another year. As Murray Mandryk says in the Leader Post this week: "Consider the mounting evidence. In the past seven days alone, the Calvert government has announced $4 million for the Mendel Art Gallery in Saskatoon, $17.3 million for a 6,596-square-metre building at Regina's Innovation Place, $17.4 million for upgrades to Ipsco Place in Regina and $8.6 million for a new multi-purpose sports facility in Regina -- plus today's highway twinning announcement in North Battleford. It's more than coincidence this money is being aimed at the NDP's strongholds in Regina, Saskatoon, Moose Jaw and The Battlefords."
Never mind that Calvert says the spending isn't about an impending election. I think by now those of us living in this fine province know better than to believe a word he says!
And, unfortunately for him, his efforts are all for naught. By this point not even a nice new pair of shiny veneers and eco-friendly ride will win over the people of this province. Enjoy your new ride while you can Lorne cause come fall you'll surely be relegated back to opposition seating.

I hope you are correct on the assessment that the Calvert government will fall in the upcoming election. However, as long as he buys the city votes and terrifies/buys the seniors the NDP has every chance of winning the election. History shows all they need is the cities. See the rapid rural decline from NDP centralization policies moving people, industry and tax dollars from rural Saskatchewan to support the good life in NDP urban utopias. NEVER count the NDP out. They have in the past and can again in the present will elections despite incompetent and arrogant governing.

Well looks like the NDP are at it again. The "hidden agenda" boogeyman has appeared in some NDP ads leaked by Brad Wall. Absolutely pathetic ...people are not fooled this time Lorne!

This blogger needs an education.
Socialism is the next step after Capitalism fails.(See Marx) Having a right wing neo-con government would be the worst possible thing for Sask.
We need to continue to be fair to the middle class. I find it very funny when someone with no post secondary thinks they have the knowledge to discuss politics. You do understand that american style right wing agendas don't work. Perhaps you should take a look at the american debt.
Only because of the NDP have we been able to undo the damage done by the Divine Government.Remember?
Never again do we want a conservative at the helm of this ship. They will run it into the ground again.

Just in defense of myself from the last comment, I do indeed have a post -secondary education. I hold an Honours BA in Political Science and MA in Political Science. But does that not qualify as post-secondary education? I've also worked for a living and worked in government so I've also developed a real-world practical perspective of politics.
Right of centre parties have worked in the past. Fine, you can point to the current American regime and try to counter that point but there are numerous other right-wing governments that I could point to right here in Canada: Gordon Campbell's Liberals in BC and Ralph Klein's Conservatives in Alberta being two of them. And, the Conservatives in Ottawa don't seem to be racking up much debt right now with their 14 billion surplus.
I also find it peculiar that you think a right-of-centre government wouldn't be able to realize the mistakes of the Devine years. Yes, Devine was overzealous during a recession and the province went into huge debt. What makes you think that would happen again? Is there any clear indication?
Perhaps amidst your ignorance and blatantly false accusations you could take a moment to open your mind and imagine what the possibilities could be for this great province.
By the way - what is your level of post-secondary education?
