Online Ruckus

The NDP candidate in Swift Current, Jeff Potts, was asked to resign by Calvert today. Apparently Potts was posting on Babble, a socialist sounding board, under the pseudonym "famous pipeliner". "Famous pipeliner" accused John Wall, Swift Current city councilor and father of Brad Wall, of renting out crack houses and forcing those residents to put up Sask Party signs. He also accuses Brad Wall of using $15,000 of taxpayer's money on alcohol at his wedding. As it turns out, neither of these accusation are founded. In fact, John Wall doesn't even own any rental properties.

This finding just goes to show the lows that the NDP lot will stoop to in order to defame their opponents. They have gotten so desperate that they are resorting to all time lows. Is this really the type of candidate the NDP wants to be running? Apparently not, since Calvert asked Potts to step aside. However, if they have nominated candidates like Potts, who's to say that the other candidates running in this election for that party aren't of the same character? Perhaps the NDP are just so desperate to have someone run for them that they'll take anyone.

  • Lorne Calvert had no problem appointing Eldon Lautermilch back into a high level cabinet job after it was discovered that he misled the Legislature for 6 years on the nature of SPUDCO.

    Just goes to show that the dippers will literally do or say anything in the pursuit of power.

  • Actually, he stated that BW's father had erected a lawn sign on a rental property that was known to be a crack house. The CPC did it in the last election in NC Regina, there were moe then a few boarded up houses with CPC signage. In fact this has been a regular tactic of neo-cons.

    The $15k in booze for a wedding was over the top.

  • I think all voters need log into www.rabble.ca/babble and read through what the grassroots support for the NDP coast to coast is saying (and thinking).

    Hope you don't mind, but I've linked to ya on www.nodemocraticprocess.com

  • The following points ought to be made in this election campaign:

    1. Re: Broken promises:

    NDP education announcement - what ever happened to the NDP's old election promise of free first year tuition? Never implemented! Why should the electorate believe their new promises?;

    2. Re: Running on Record:

    It is disturbing to me to hear a government that has been in power for 16 consecutive years outlining comprehensive plans for the future in this election campaign while simultaneously refusing to run on their record. Can we not find something more recent than Tommy Douglas' record to highlight?

    3. Re: Pat Atkinson as finance minister:

    I wouldn't put Pat Atkinson in charge of the finances relating to my bakesale, let alone the entire Saskatchewan budget! The NDP must have a better option!! Maybe former NDP cabinet minister Dwain Lingenfelter would agree to return from Calgary to take the jobm were the NDP successful yet again.

  • john,

    i reviewed your blog and am pleased to see a comprehensive analysis of each constituency. i am a very passive observer (with the exception of last night's post which spawned from extreme annoyance with the NDP campaign). keep up the good work - sorry i won't be emailing you as i wish to remain somewhat passive.
