Wall's Prescription Drug Plan Makes Sense

I was relieved to see Brad Wall's announcement that under a Saskatchewan Party government the Senior's drug Plan would only be available to those seniors that really need it rather than everyone in the entire province. It is also nice to see that young children will be covered.

What a change to see a policy on this file that makes good financial sense. As I've said before, drug costs are only going to increase. While that burden shouldn't be placed on those that can't afford it, it is irresponsible to extend coverage to every man, woman, and child in the province regardless of need.

I think the Saskatchewn Party's plan contrasts nicely with Calvert's poorly thought out alternative introduced yesterday. That contrast points out the difference we would see in a Brad Wall government - one that thinks through its policies before introducing them rather than promising popular items that are simply not feasible like Calvert's tired, old regime.

Are you kidding? $64k cut off? I don't make 64k and these gold-fingers are retired or retiring? Making that much _and_ they expect me to pay for it? Sorry.

I could have lived with 30k, but not 60+

I am of the opinion that we don't even need a drug plan.

  • Lance,

I see your point. I think it probably should be lower but at least it is consistent with the age cut-off used for the federal age tax credit and not some arbitrary number.

Drug costs are set to raise so much and seniors need them more than anyone... I guess it's about balance - providing coverage for those that need it most while not breaking the bank. Whether or not this is the balance point is up for debate.

  • Sorry, not interested in the least.

I'll vote Liberal rather than a pseudo-Liberal party that breaks what it supposedly stands for just to gain power.

    Not a happy camper here.

  • What does the SP stand for again?

This is just more anti-business policy from the SP. This will not give us a competitve advantage to attract more investment and jobs. It does not help the middle class parents that are one of the main drivers of our economy, unless your kids is U14 because 14 yo can pay for themselves.

Whomever is in charge of policy needs to be canned, that is 2 bogus policies in 2 days. Looks like 2003, again.

  • Umm, not quite Quimby. This is marginally better than the NDP's plan.

As far as tuition reimbursement post school vs. tuition reduction during school . . . let's just say I'd rather pay those that finish compared to those that fritter.

    But that post is coming.

  • Both the NDP and the SaskParty suck here. Health care is a never ending black hole, and the resources are disproportionately spent on those who no longer contribute much to the economy. I'm a SaskParty supporter, but they've really blown their chance at displaying fiscal prudence.

  • anonymous comments are not worth commenting on.

9 times out of 10 they're people misrepresenting themselves.

In otherwords, anon is probably astro-turfing.

Google it if you're unfamiliar with the term.

    Cheers,
